Kalanchöe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) is the prettiest of the houseplants I picked up with it’s long lasting canopy of blooms. Because it’s a succulent, it’s also rather undemanding. It likes cool temperatures and can tolerate a variety of light levels.
This is one I didn’t realize was toxic until after I brought it home. The report I read indicated some pretty unpleasant effects in animals, but after eating the flowers in large amounts over an extended period of time. This may be one you place out of reach, or remove if you notice signs of interest in your pets. My cats couldn’t care less about this one, even though it had been on the table they sit on to watch traffic going by the front of the house.
